About This Spot

Stepping into O Caldeirão feels like uncovering a quietly cherished corner of Porto, where time slows just enough to savor genuine connection and simple, heartfelt cooking. Tucked along Rua dos Caldeireiros, this intimate tapas spot carries the gentle hum of stone walls cooling a warm day and the soft murmur of conversations between locals and visitors drawn by the lure of honest flavors and friendly attentiveness.

The pace here is unhurried but alive with intention—each dish brought to the table tells a story shaped by tradition and the season’s best offerings. Plates arrive with a rustic charm that invites sharing and discovery, whether it’s tender octopus kissed by smoky heat or a thoughtful arrangement of cheese and olives that feels like a quiet celebration of Portuguese harvests. There’s a grounded warmth to the cooking that mirrors the hospitality you’ll find behind the counter and in the subtle attentiveness of the staff.

Beyond the food, it’s the atmosphere that lingers—a small space made generous by the genuine care woven into every interaction. The feeling is homey without being familiar in a cliché way; it’s where a meal becomes a moment, a brief but meaningful pause in the flow of a day exploring Porto’s stories and streets.

For those who come with the curiosity to try something new, or simply to settle in with good company and good wine, O Caldeirão offers an experience that’s quietly memorable—marked by the simple joy of well-made food and the kindness of a place that welcomes you as if you’ve always belonged.

After four days in Porto, we looked for our final meal and with a bit of research, we arrived at Caldeirao. While we had to wait for short time given that there were six of us, the minor wait was so worthwhile. The waiter was entirely attentive to our drink orders before our main orders. He was extremely personable and professional. We ordered the Pork Shank; the steak; a cod seafood item; and another order of ham and potatoes. All of the food was amazing and so succulent, that nothing was left over. All the drinks including red wine, sangria, and a beer really complemented the food. The place is small and tight but ever so worth it and I’d would highly recommend it for anyone wanting to superb meal.

Beautiful small place with very nice staff. The food is excellent and a great value. I had the steak, potatoes, and salad and thought the preparation was amazing. The stone walls keep you cool on a hot day and the smiling people here will make you feel welcome. Check it out!

Find this place by luck. It was a bit early but I didn't have breakfast and was starting to feel hungry. The place was empty but the guy made me feel comfortable. I ordered the bacalhau and was amazing. Service was also great. Would definitely recommend!

We stayed in this alley, and found this place just because our Airbnb location…. And We tried our lunch here…. The food was amazing and we had to come back again for the dinner!!! It is rare travelers visit the same place twice during the trip in one city, but the chef’s food was worth coming back again. The chef remembered us, we would like to say thank you to his food, but we were in a rush for the night show. So, this review is the only chance we say thank you to his food. Small place and lovely atmosphere, and the food was amazing!

This is my favourite restuarant.. out of all the places in Porto. The service by Percy is impeccable. He is the right amount, very attentative and caring. The food is cozy, authentic and homey. Its not extravagant but its the real taste of Porto. Love this. Ive been back twice in one week. The dish is inspiring. The price is super cute.
